Seun Kuti, son of controversial afro-beat singer, Fela, has spoken up on his opinion about Buhari’s choice of people he investigates with regards to corruption. “OBJ should be investigated,” he says.
Following the Federal government probing former president Goodluck Jonathan, Mr. Kuti took to Twitter on Tuesday, June 7, 2016, accusing the government of being partial.
Seun Kuti called on the Buhari led administration, to add Olusegun Obasanjo (OBJ) to the probing list to avoid impartiality.
Seun Kuti tweeted:
“What about the other president? Abi OBJ is not worth investigating or is this government scared of investigating OBJ ni?”
Seun Kuti is known for being very vocal on societal and political issues just like his late father. Last month, the afro-beat musician aired his view on the new fuel price of N145, following the removal of fuel subsidy.
Seun’s recent tweet must have been triggered by a long-standing rift between the Kuti family and Olusegun Obasanjo. OBJ, who was President of Nigeria from 1999 to 2007 and also the 5th Head of State of Nigeria in the military regime between 1976 and 1979, was allegedly said to be involved in the death of Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, (Seun’s paternal grandmother).
In 1978, Funmilayo, who was an activist, was thrown down from a third-floor window at the Kalakuta Republic by a thousand armed military personnel. She sustained several injuries from that unfortunate incident which led to her death.
In 2012, Suen Kuti spoke against the idea of the Nigerian government using the picture of his grandmother on the proposed N5,000 note. He emphasised that the government should apologise to his family for the death of Funmilayo Kuti, before thinking of immortalising her on the proposed N5,000 note.
