PDP Leaders Call For Ali Modu-Sheriff’s Resignation

A group of concerned leaders, stakeholders and elders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), under the auspices of PDP Rescue Group led by Wilberforce Juta has called on the resignation of the new National Chairman, Ali Modu-Sheriff.

Wilberforce Juta, who also contested for PDP chairmanship, made this call on Sunday, February 21, in Abuja during a news conference. According to him, most PDP members do not see  Sheriff as a model of impeccable integrity that the party needs to lead it at this critical moment.

He also said the leaders were not happy by National Executive Committee (NEC) decision to  appoint Him (Sheriff) as national chairman.

“Most PDP members did not see in Sheriff a model of impeccable integrity that the party badly needed to lead it at this critical moment. We are upset by the decision of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party in appointing Ali Modu-Sheriff as National Chairman. We are convinced that this decision is against the will and wish of the generality of members.

“We know for a fact the North-East Zonal wing, having been directed by the National Caucus of the party to forward nominees from the zone, did not nominate Modu-Sheriff for the position of National Chairman.”

Mr. Juta therefore called on Modu-Sheriff to step down honourably as it is evident that party members nationwide have overwhelmingly rejected him,he also urged other organs of the party to challenge and insist on the removal of Mr. Modu-Sheriff.

“Consequently, Modu-Sheriff should do the needful by stepping down honourably as it is evident that party members nationwide have overwhelmingly rejected him.”

He added that “It is our considered view that we endeavour to elect only those with discernible traits.”

Meanwhile, report has it that the founder of the Peoples Democratic (PDP), Dalhatu Sarki Tafida, has left the party.  According to Sahara Reporters, Tafida in an interview with BBC Hausa said  he has decided to leave the party because PDP market in Nigeria’s politics was over and that  party had lost  its respect.

“I have decided to leave PDP, and I will not join another party. I left because there is no focus, if a market is over, a responsible man should go home. Now the market is over. It was good in the past, but now it is the worst, with impunity and confusion.

“The party has been destroyed and reduced to nothing, and I have decided to dump the party. I don’t think our stay in the party is wise, because the people now abuse everyone, and no one will even listen to you.”

Some lawmakers of party last week also threatened to dump party if Ali Modu Sheriff,is not removed as the party chairman.
