Be Patient with Buhari – Gowon Pleads With Nigerians


Former Military Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (rtd), on Tuesday begged Nigerians to be more patient with President Muhammadu Buhari, as all would be well soon.

The elder statesman who spoke with newsmen in Abuja after his closed door meeting with President Buhari said the president was trying to fix the country and that Nigerians would begin to see the effect very soon.

Gowon said he appreciates the president’s efforts and determination to rid the country of corruption, which he said had been one of the problems holding the country down and creating serious set backs for the country both nationally and internationally.

He also expressed delight at the Federal Government’s determination so far in the fight against Boko Haram insurgents and efforts to rescue the missing Chibok girls.

General Yakubu Gowon, however, expressed confidence that the government would soon get credible information that would lead to the rescue of the girls abducted over two years ago from their school’s dormitory in Borno State.

He also said his visit to the president afforded him the opportunity to pay his respect to the President and to inform him of his plan to travel out of the country on holiday as well as for his programme, Nigeria Prays, holding in the United States and the United Kingdom.

Gowon told newsmen;

I have come to pay my respect to Mr. President and to let him know that I will be going out of the country on holiday and for my programme, Nigeria Prays, in the US and UK.

“We had cause to discuss general affairs of the country, the problems we have in the country and his fight against corruption. The expectation of the public is that they want to see result;  no one has been found guilty. We believe that will soon begin.
