Multi-Award Winning Actor Olu Jacobs Is A Year Older Today


One of Nollywood’s best actors of all times, Olu Jacobs is a year older today. Olu Jacobs was born in 1942 and has just clocked 74 today, July 11th, 2016.

Olu Jacob has been married to co-thespian and popular actress, Joke Silva for 31-years and counting. His wife, in celebration of her husband’s birthday, shared her best wishes to him on Instagram.

“Happy Birthday dear One. May your strength be renewed like the eagles and your children’s children surround your table. Have a beautiful day,” she captioned a picture of them in an about-to-kiss-pose.

Born as Oludotun Jacobs,  Olu grew up in Kano and attended Holy Trinity School. His love for acting was inspired by one of Hubert Ogunde’s annual concert party at Colonial Hotel in Kano. Thereafter, he traveled to England where he studied acting.

In England, he trained at The Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London. He has starred in several British television series and international films between the 1970s and 80s.

Some of his international works include ‘The Goodies,’ ‘Till Death Us Do Part,’ ‘Barlow at Large,’ ‘The Venturers,’ ‘Angels,’ ‘1990,’ ‘The Tomorrow People,’ ‘The Professionals.’

Olu Jacobs also starred in John Irvin’s war film The Dogs of War, Roman Polanski’s adventure-comedy Pirates (1986) and the family-adventure film Baby: Secret of the Lost Legend (1985). On television, he was a cast in TVS’s The Witches and the Grinnygog (1983 series). In Nigeria, Jacobs has starred in over 120 Nollywood films.

To mention but a few, his honorary achievements include African Movie Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role, 2007,  and other outstanding achievements in acting at the 2013 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards.
