Nzube Bags 4 Years Behind Bars In India. See What He Did

Nigerian Michael Nzube has been sentenced  to four years in jail by a court in Panaji, Goa, India, for stabbing another Nigerian, Chukwuebuka Henry, to death for going after his girlfriend.

Mr. Nzube committed the offence at about 2.30am, December 21, 2012, when he went to the deceased’s flat and started searching for his girlfriend, which resulted in a fight between the two. While the fight was on, the witness, Michael Okafor, who accompanied the accused to the flat, was pushed into the bedroom by the duo and by the time he emerged from the bedroom, the victim had been stabbed.

Based on the eyewitness statement, Nzube was held guilty under section 304 (Part II) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The court however noted that the offence of the accused was that of culpable homicide not amounting to murder because evidence proved that while the accused caused the death of Henry, there was no intention to cause death in the sudden fight.

In his ruling, additional sessions judge, Mapusa, Desmond D’Costa said that based on the facts and circumstances of the case, a four- year simple imprisonment would be justice enough “as this is the first conviction of the accused and the incident took place due to a dispute over the friendship of the deceased with the girlfriend of the accused.”

The court also fined Nzube 10,000 rupees.

Last month (March), a 34-year-old Nigerian was allegedly stabbed to death in Mumbai India, by his inebriated roommate and fellow countryman, following a heated argument over whether Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo is the world’s best footballer.

According to report, the victim, Obinna Durumchukwu and the accused, Michael Chukwuma (22), were partying at their rented flat at Mahesh building, Ostwal Nagri, Nalasopara (east) on Saturday to mark Obinna’s 34th birthday. The celebrations went on till 9am on Sunday, when they decided to play football in the common balcony on the building’s third floor. Both were drunk. While playing, they argued over whether Ronaldo or Messi was a better footballer.

The argument turned ugly when Obinna allegedly hurled an empty glass liquor bottle at Michael. The bottle missed Michael, hit a wall and smashed into pieces. Michael then picked up a glass piece and slashed Obinna’s neck and he died on the spot.
