Ini Edo Appointed Special Adviser In Akwa Ibom State


Nollywood actress, Ini Edo, has been appointed as the Special Adviser on Tourism in Akwa Ibom state by Emmanuel Udom, the executive governor of the state. Reports say she received her appointment letter sometime last week.

The talented actress have now joins the list of other Nollywood actresses like Kate Henshaw, Nkiru Sylvanus, Desmond Elliot and others who have held or are still holding political positions in their respective states.

Ini, as she is fondly called by friends and fans, was actually born Iniobong Edo Ekim on April 19, 1982. Ini began her acting career in 2000. She was uncovered by a producer at an audition she attended. Impressed by Ini’s performance, he gave her a new role in his movie. Ini gave the role her best and since then, it’s been one movie role to the other until she climbed the ladder of success. Her first movie was ”Thick Madam” in 2003.

Although she studied theatre arts at the University of Uyo and Calabar respectively, she said she did not see herself becoming an actress as she was thinking of going into law or television.

Her breakout role came when she acted in the film, ‘World Apart’ (2004) and ever since then she has featured in over 100 films. She tried her hands on producing in 2010 when she co-produced and starred in a film, ‘Memories of my Heart’ with Emem Isong.

Ini has also been an ambassador to a couple of well known Beauty, Telecom and Food Industry. She is a Noble Hair Brand Ambassador, Glo Ambassador, Face of Chivita [the fruit juice company] and in 2011 she was appointed United Nations Habitat Youth Envoy.

She got married in 2008 to businessman, Philip Ehiagwina but got divorced in 2014 due some claims of mis-understanding between them.
