Indian police are in search of a Nigerian who allegedly assaulted a 30-year-old Ugandan woman with a knife while she was having dinner with her friends at a restaurant in Bengaluru on Wednesday. This is yet another scandal involving a Nigerian on the international scene.
According to a complaint filed by the woman Shakira Nsonko, 30, currently residing in Kukkenahalli, near Hennur, northeast Bengaluru, the incident happened on Wednesday night at a restaurant on February 10.
The woman who claims to be a garment entrepreneur came to the city a year ago on a business visa has been admitted to a private hospital in the city with injuries.
She alleged that when she and her friend, Gifletin had gone to African Kitchen, a restaurant serving African food, at Banjara Layout in Kukkenhalli, Onsas came to the restaurant a few minutes later and asked Shakira if she would buy him drinks.
Irritated, Shakira refused, asking him why she should do anything for him. An angry Onsas pushed and slapped her, she alleged.
With the restaurant’s owner’s assistance, Shakira hid herself up in one of the rooms. Meanwhile, she called her boyfriend Tony who rushed to the spot.
“After a few minutes, when Shakira left the hotel and headed to the parking area, Onsas, who was waiting for her, pushed and cut her with a knife,” the police said.
While Onsas escaped from the spot, Tony and Gifletin first took Shakira to a local clinic in Kammanahalli. She was taken to Ramaiah Hospital the next morning.
According to Shakira’s statements to Hennur police, Onsas, an acquaintance, convinced her not to file a police complaint, saying he was sorry and promising to pay the medical bills.
However, when he failed to show up at the hospital, Shakira filed a police complaint on Saturday. Accordingly, a medico legal case was registered.
Hennur police have registered a case under section 323 and section 324 (voluntarily causing hurt using dangerous weapon) and the investigation is on.
