Flavour is a Nigerian music artiste well-known for his ability to sing fluently in the Igbo language. His often incomparable talent has brought him quite far. His is a story of steady growth, development and resilience.

Flavour N’abania, rose from being a part of his church choir to the level where he is now considered a prolific Nigerian recording artist, dancer, songwriter, and performer. He has unwaveringly pursued his dreams up unto the world stage.

Mr. Flavour has also tried his hand at acting although he has only featured in minor supporting roles in some Nollywood productions.

Flavour’s Background

Flavour whose full name is Chinedu Izuchukwu Okali was born on 23rd November 1983. He was born into the family of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin O. Okali in Enugu State, Nigeria.

His family is originally from Umunze in Orumba South LGA, Anambra State, Nigeria. His father was a trader who loved education, a fact which featured heavily in the upbringing of his children.

Flavour attended WTC primary School, Ogui layout in 1989. For his secondary education, he attended College of Emmaculate Conception and studied Business Management in University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus (UNN) in 2004.

Flavour’s Early Love For Music

Flavour showed a great affinity and interest for music at a very young age. He began his music career at the age of thirteen when he started playing the drums for his church choir in Enugu.

The resident pastor of his church had introduced him to a friend, Chris I. Ordor, the CEO of SoundCity Communications. Mr. Ordor had just started a music company aimed at training young musicians on music basis and sharpening their skill to the point that it would be widely considered professional.

In 1996, Flavour was awarded a scholarship to study music at SoundCity communications. After three years at the drums, Flavour became an uncontested professional and expanded on his skill by moving on to learn the keyboard. He would also sometimes provide backing vocals for other musicians at SoundCity.

His gravitation towards music and a career therein was initially difficult for his parents to accept as they leaned more towards academic pursuits. However, Flavour would go on to stick with music and at the end, his resilience and efforts paid off.

Flavour’s Songs And Muic Career

Flavour joined a band in 2002, playing the drums and later on, the keyboard. He left after 2 years to form his own band in 2004 and they managed to perform at hangout spots like Bubbles plaza, city center and villa Toscana, all in Enugu.

In 2008, Flavour released a smash 8 track album which was to launch him into stardom. The album titled Nabania sold over 10 million copies nationwide. His second album Uplifted was released in March 2010. “Nwa baby”, “Oyi” and “Adamma” were a few songs off the album that became instant hits.

Blessed, his next album was released in October 2012 under the record label 2nite Enter-10-ment and was marketed by Obaino music.

Music Inspiration

Flavour draws inspiration from late Fela Anikulapo Kuti and late Osita Osadebe. His music is a fusion of African rhythm, high life and contemporary jazz. He has played music in Nigeria, the United States of America, Europe and numerous countries in Africa.

Flavour performed for the 50th African Music Concert in Benin Republic organized by KORA. His career has been chock full of many awesome stage appearances, even alongside foreign artistes like Akon, Sean Kingston, Ciara, Rick Ross, Snoop Dogg and other prominent artistes from Africa and his home country Nigeria.

Awards And Achievements

Flavour is certainly no stranger to the awards tables. In the Nigeria Music Video Awards (NMVA) alone, his hit song Ada Ada won Video of the Year, Best High Life Video, Best Indigenous Concept, and Best use of costumes.

He also has a City People Entertainment Award for Best Collabo of the Year for song Give It To Me, and Channel O Music Video Awards for Best R&B Video Oyi Remix (featuring Tiwa Savage) and a host of others.

Flavour also has a number of endorsements, the most recent which occurred in April this year with Nigerian Breweries.

Personal Life

Flavour who has declared himself decidedly opposed to the idea of marriage as a celebrity has two Babymamas.

He had his first child from Delta soap model Sandra Okagbue and more recently, ex beauty queen Anna Banner also joined the league of Flavour’s baby mamas after she gave birth to a baby girl for the star.

He has been famously linked with co-artiste Chidinma, although the two have denied that there is anything between them besides a deep-seated love for music.
