Sunny Ade

King Sunny Ade is one of the most influential Nigerian musicians of all time. Born in Ondo state, the singer and multi-instrumentalist, will be marking his 70th birthday on September 22, 2016.

Sunny Ade grew up with a musical family; his father was a church organist and taught him the basic sounds of music. KSA began his career with Moses Olaiya’s Federal Rhythm Dandies, a highlife band and later moved to ‘The Green Spots’, which was his personal band.

Over the years, Sunny Ade’s band has changed its name severally, first to African Beats and then to Golden Mercury. However, their music remains top-notch.

King Ade has collaborated with major artists such as Manu Dibango (Wakafrika) and Stevie Wonder, as well as younger Nigerian artists such as Wasiu Alabi Pasuma and Bola Abimbola. He has also worked together with world music artists like Senegalese Youssou N’Dour, Mali’s Salif Keita and many others.
