A five-storey building located at the Chisco bus-stop opposite Oando Lekki Phase 1, Lagos has just collapsed this morning, claiming 4 lives. The building reportedly collapsed at about 4.30 am following a thunder storm which was followed by a heavy down pour.
The spokesman of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ibrahim Farinloye, who confirmed the incident initially said one person was confirmed dead and four rescued alive but an update reaching us says some of the survivors later died from injuries sustained from the incident, raising the death toll to four.
He said six persons have beem rescued alive by a combined team of emergency workers drawn from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Federal and State Fire Service, the Police and some neighbours who rushed to the scene of the collapsed building soon after it occurred.
He added that those injured have been taken to the Lagos State General Hospital, where they are currently being treated.
A five-storey building collapsed Tuesday morning at Chisco Bus Stop, opposit Oando Filling Station, Lekki Phase one, Lagos. Six trapped victims have been rescued alive, while four dead bodies have been recovered from under the debris.
Those rescued alive were first treated by medical personnel attached to the Lagos State Ambullance Service (LASEMBUS) before they were moved to Lagos General Hospital. The bodied of the dead ones have since been deposited at the mortuary.
