President Muhammadu Buhari has revealed that the International terror group, ISIS also known as Islamic state or ISIL, is responsible for financially backing up Nigeria’s terrorist group, Boko Haram. Buhari also said that it is clear the sector’s material resources are strong. Calling on financial institutions and security agencies, Mr. President said all hands must be on deck to track sponsors of these terror groups.
This statement was released by the President’s media aide, Femi Adesina, who said that “the terrorist activities always have financial sponsorship and this can be seen in their acquisition of weapons, their movements and other logistics.”
Femi Adesina said:
“Here in Nigeria, we saw that Boko Haram had strong material resources and they had a close link to ISIL. We need a whole cultural orientation in order to succeed against terrorism.”
The media aide to President Buhari also explained that Nigeria’s economy is in its current depleting state due to the refusal of the previous Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governments who refused to save for the rainy day.
In addition, a former Governor of Ebonyi state, Senator Sam Egwu, said that PDP members wish President Muhammadu Buhari a successful tenure. He said that to buttress the fact that Mr. Buhari is capable of restoring the nation back to a peaceful and progressive state.
Note that the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, alternatively translated as Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, ISIS is a Salafi jihadist militant group that follows an Islamic fundamentalist, Wahhabi doctrine of Sunni Islam.
In June 2013, the group proclaimed itself to be the Islamic State, declaring Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi as its caliph. As a caliphate, ISIS claims religious, political and military authority over all Muslims worldwide, and if President Buhari instinctively says they are behind Boko Haram, he may not be far from the truth.
