Imo State Set To Unveil The Tallest Statue Of Jesus

Christianity has always been a well respected religion in Nigeria and Catholicism is even more respected especially considering the fact that over 50% of Nigerian Christians are Catholics. In a move that rivals something that could be seen in Rome, a 28 feet statue of Jesus Christ called ‘Jesus De Greatest’ is set to be unveiled at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in the Abajah local government area of Imo state on January 1, 2016. The Marble made Jesus de Greatest, which weighs 40 tons will be the 5th tallest statue in Africa.

The statue was said to have been donated to the church by Obinna Onuoha, a graduate of York St. Johns University in the United Kingdom and the Harvard Business School and founder of Premier Petroleum Limited. This unique statue project was started on January 1st 2014 and will be launched exactly two years after.

Meanwhile, the top five tallest statues in the world include the 28 feet Nelson Mandela Union Building in South Africa, 30 feet Ramesses II in Egypt, 66 feet Great Sphinx of Giza still in Egypt, 161 feet, African Renaissance Monument in Dakar, Senegal. But the world’s tallest statue of Jesus is Christ the King in Świebodzin, western Poland, at a height of 172 feet.
