Igbo Militant Group Blows Up Agip Pipeline In Imo State

The Igbo militant group, Niger Delta Red Squad (RDRS), a new militant group operating in the oil bearing communities of Ohaji/Egbema council area of Imo State, has announced that it has blown another oil facility belonging to Agip Oil Company at Umuonei in Awara community.

This is coming just three months after it unleashed an attack on its first target, Shell Petroleum Development Company.

Releasing information about its recent conquest via a Facebook post, the group warned personnel of the oil company to stay away from the pipeline, threatening to cut off the head of anyone found within the vicinity.

RDRS in its post by one General Don Wannie, claimed that the reason for the attack was because the operations of Agip company has not made any positive impact in their community.

“We have seen enough marginalisation and it has to be stopped,” he said.

Igbo Militant Group Blows Up Agip Pipeline In Imo State

The Igbo militant group disclosed that its decision to resume hostility was occasioned by the continued criminal neglect of the oil-bearing communities by oil companies. It said:

“We are not happy with Agip because they have continued to neglect our communities. Since they have refused to change, we have equally resumed the attack on their pipelines and we are going to blow until they do the right thing”.

The group swore to chase out the oil company from Ohaji/Egbema council area saying that if the state government did not compel the oil company to do what they ought to do, it would be left with no option than to also attack the offices of the Imo State Oil Producing Area Development Commission  (ISOPADEC) and the Niger Delta Development Community (NDDC)

The group also threatened to attack Governor Rochas Okorocha’s Ogboko village if government deployed any military to their community.

“To Imo State government and their security agencies, we ask you to give our people what rightfully belong to them. You think the best thing you can do is to plan how to deploy security men to our area. No problem… we are assuring you that no security agent will come to any part of Awarra and go without being beheaded,” it threatened.
