A 28-year old theft suspect, Babatunde Ibrahim, who was arrested by operatives of Rapid Response Squad, RRS, in Lagos, has confessed that he derives pleasure from stealing.
Ibrahim, who was arrested in Ikeja on Sunday as he was returning from a burglary in the Ilupeju area of the state, said he specializes in stealing phones and confessed to have stolen over 100 phones.
The RRS Commander, Olatunji Disu, who confirmed Ibrahim’s arrest said his men gave him a hot chase after noticing his suspicious movement and was eventually arrested when he could not give satisfactory answers to the questions he was asked.
We gave him a chase and caught up with him. We conducted a thorough check on his bag where we recovered the stolen items.
Confessing at the RRS headquarters, Ibrahim said stealing had become part of him since childhood and that he is a specialist in burgling people’s houses, either by breaking the door or cutting window net with a razor blade. “I derive pleasure in taking what does not belong to me” he said.
He said from burglary, he also operate during traffic jams, especially on Ikorodu Road, Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway and Apapa-Oshodi Expressway.
But that luck ran out on him during his last operation at Ilupeju where he stole two Nokia phones, one BlackBerry and other valuables. He also mentioned Sanni Azeez, 27, and Hakeem Kamoru, 40, who live at Akala Street in Mushin, as his accomplices who receives the stolen items from him.
The Lagos State Police Public Relation Officer (PRO), SP Dolapo Badmos said the suspects have been transferred to the Ilupeju Police Station and would be charged to court after investigations have been concluded.
