The ceremony started at about 12pm with an opening prayer by a member of the guild, Emmanuel Ayaba. Afterwards, Akpors lightened up the atmosphere with hilarious jokes, before the event kicked off with the former president of DGN, Mathias Obahiagbon, serving as Master of the ceremony.
A valedictory speech was given by the outgoing president of the association, Andy Amenechi. He talked about some of the achievements of his administration, which include creation of members’ database, introduction of capacity building programme and establishment of an effective banking system. Then it was followed by the swearing-in proper where the new president and his executives took their oath of office. This was administered by Babatunde Ogala, a Lagos lawyer and former Chairman House Committee on Justice, Lagos State House of Assembly.
The outgoing president tendered his handover note and also handed over all the documents of the guild including the cheque book to Fred Amata who gave his first speech as the president of the guild. Mr. Fred thanked the outgoing president and his executives for raising the bar and establishing standards that have taken DGN forward. He vowed to work even harder to take the association to the next level.
The ceremony was graced by the likes of former AGN president, Ejike Asiegbu, TAMPAN president, Dele Odule, ANTP president, Pa. Ashaolu, Ralph Nwadike, Paul Obazele, Charles Novia, Charles Nnojie, Zik Zulu Okafor, Lancelot Imasuen, Koko Yibo, Franca Brown, Keppy Bassey Ekpenyong, Kingsley Omoefe, Collins Onwochei, Dj Tee among others. This news would definitely be good for one of the ex wives of the new president, who was one time a president of Actor’s Guild of Nigeria, same way her bail from court should be great news for Fred Amata. However, Fred Amata will be working alongside Mike Ogunwusi (VP), Ugezu Ugor (Secretary), Uchenna Agbo (Ass. Secretary) and Oduala Taiwo (P.R.O), as a board of executives of Directors Guild of Nigeria.
