FG Flags Off Rehabilitation Work On Umuahi-Ikot Ekpene Road
The Federal Government has flagged off the rehabilitation process of the Umuahia – Ikot Ekpene road.
This will bring the much-desired relief to motorists and commuters who ply the ever-so-busy but deplorable Umuahia-Ikot Ekpene federal road.
The Federal Road Maintenance Agency, FERMA has flagged-off palliative repairs on the road with the yuletide season underway.
A large portion of the Abia end of the Umuahia-Ikot Ekpene road is riddled with several deadly and dangerous and deadly potholes.
Rural communities in the area usually demand tolls from motorists who divert from the major road into the community roads as a result of the deplorable state of the federal road.
The youths demand the tolls for the damage the vehicles inflict on the fragile community roads as they attempt to abandon the damaged federal road.
At several bad portions of the road, trapped vehicles can be seen stationed on some portion of the road for several weeks and even months during the rainy season.

He, however, commended the Federal Government for the decision to give the road palliative repairs pending when thorough rehabilitation work would begin.
Senator Orji, reiterating the importance of the road, expressed joy that the Federal Government had also realized the importance of the road.
“Almost all the trailers that go to Akwa Ibom and Cross River States pass through this road.
“So it needs good maintenance.”

He also condemned the shoddy work done on the road by FERMA in the past.
