Technical Director of Enugu Rangers, Christian Chukwu has disclosed that his team have suspended any title celebrations until Sunday.
The Flying Antelopes are looking forward to winner their last game of the season against El Kanemi Warriors on Sunday.
Enugu Rangers were “technically” the champions of the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) after a 2-1 defeat over Ikorodu United.
The Flying Antelopes will host the Maiduguri Warriors at home on Sunday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu.
Rangers Football Club of Enugu are barely inches away from their seventh league title.
Coach Christian Chukwu said although the general consensus is that Rangers have won the league, they want to play safe.
He added that the Flying Antelopes will see off their title win to the very last match against El-Kanemi Warriors.
Enugu Rangers Suspend Celebrations Till Last Match
Chukwu speaking to Supersport said:
“We are not yet fully champions until after Sunday’s clash against El Kanemi Warriors.
“Although the teeming fans believe it’s all over and we have won nothing is wrong with that but we want to first see the job well done.
“Certainly, celebration will start immediately on Sunday after we must have finished successfully the clash against El Kanemi Warriors.
“People are wont to call the clash ceremonial for us it’s a crucial 90 minutes game that can reshape many things if handled badly.
“We feel the battle is not over until it’s seen to be over and we have told the players in no unmistakable term that they must remain calm, cool and focus to see off the clash against El Kanemi Warriors.
Chukwu assured that Rangers are working round the clock to ensure everything is done right and under control till the last whistle.
Enugu Rangers are currently at the top of the league with 3 points ahead of closest title contenders, Rivers United.
