The Rivers State Police Command in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, paraded a 26-yearold driver, who kidnapped his employer’s son for a ransom of N20 million. The driver identified as Jeremiah Igiri, who claimed it was his first abduction, connived with a lady and two other men to abduct his employer’s son.
He actually joined the unsuspecting boy’s mother in search of the missing 4 year old boy.
“When my madam came out and was looking for the boy, I also joined her in the search for the boy. The second day I felt bad over what I did as I became troubled seeing my Madam crying and calling the boy’s name.”
Narrating details of the operation at the Police command, Jeremiah Igiri disclosed that he invited a lady and two others to handle the operation.
When the little boy returned from school and was riding his bicycle, the people I arranged came in. So, I asked him to open the gate and that was how the lady picked him.
Igiri said whenever he wanted to reveal the truth, he’d always see two men standing in front of his madam with strange faces. He reveals that he provided the phone lines used in communicating with his madam.
“There was a day my madam and her friend took me in her car and as I was alighting, the friend gave me one thousand naira. I wanted to tell them I was behind the abduction, but a strange face again appeared and I could not say anything.”
Igiri was however alarmed when he heard that the kidnappers were demanding for N20 million ransom, as against their agreed N1 million. “I protested that it was too much”. Igiri said he told the kidnappers to collect one million naira but they said they will collect N20 million.
The driver says he agreed with the kidnappers that if she paid the N20 million, he will use his share of the ransom, (N7million) to go back to school, though the Madam did not eventually pay the ransom.
Mrs. Telalo Georgina, mother of the boy disclosed that it was at the Police station where her driver was invited that he confessed to her that he is behind the abduction.
“I am a lawyer and a Minister of the gospel. I prayed with my anointing oil before I interrogated him at the station. And he confessed to me.”
