Nine Killed During Cult Clash In Imo State


Nine persons have been reportedly killed during a cult clash at Ohaji- Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State over the weekend.

Buzz Nigeria gathered that the nine persons which included eight males and a female were killed while avenging the killing of one of their members by another rival group.  The rival group, DEEWELL cult group reportedly invaded Assa Awara community killing eight men and one woman at Obitte community.

The DEEWELL cult group reportedly carried out the killing as a  revenge against the DEEGBAM cult group, which allegedly killed one of the DEEWELL members in the area.

Police sources which confirmed the story said that armed security operatives had been deployed to the troubled spots to fish out the culprits.

the Transition Committee chairman of the local government area, Ebenezer Amadi, who also confirmed the incident said that not less than 10 persons lost their lives in the incident, including 3 security men of the Water Smith oil company operating in the area.

He also confirmed security operatives have been deployed to the areas to avert further occurrence. He expressed regret over the unfortunate incidence which has claimed the lives of innocent people.

Meanwhile, a traditional ruler and two other of his accomplices have been detained at Owerri, the Imo State capital for allegedly killing one Joseph Ihueze over a parcel of land in the same area.

Police sources say that the deceased who was insane inherited a large portion of land from his father, but the traditional ruler and two other persons killed him to enable them take over the land. The killing of Ihueze, however, sparked outrage among youths who revolted against the traditional ruler causing tension in the area.
