An Italian Catholic priest, Father Andrea Contin, is being investigated for allegedly organizing orgies in his rectory and pimping out up to 15 lovers.
48-year-old Father Andrea Contin, a parish priest in the northern city of Padua in Veneto, is under police investigation on suspicion of living off immoral earnings and psychological violence.
After complaints from three female parishioners, authorities have seized a variety of sex toys and videos, purportedly showing orgies taking place on the San Lazzaro church premises. The priest also allegedly concealed pornographic home videos in covers bearing the names of various popes.
Reports say he is accused of farming out some of his lovers to men on wife-swapping websites, and allegedly took his female friends for stays at a naturist and swingers resort in Cap d’Agde on the southern French coast. He is also reported to have spent and enjoyed expensive holidays with his lovers in exotic locations including Croatia, France and Austria.
A bishop first received complaints about Contin earlier this summer, but church authorities didn’t contact the police so they could first complete their own investigation.
According to a statement from the Diocese of Padua, Contin was, however, asked to leave the parish pending a thorough investigation, though “that does not amount to a conviction.”
One 49-year-old church volunteer, who says she had an affair with Father Contin and had sex with him in the rectory, said: “There were a lot of women hovering around him. I didn’t understand that at first, only later.”
It is understood that at least two of the women turned to Fr Contin for help when their marriages collapsed. Instead of spiritual guidance, the cleric is accused of seducing the women and pressurizing them into participating in extreme sexual activities.
Father Contin has not been arrested but a prosecutor is investigating the allegations.
