President Muhammadu Buhari will from monday June 6 2016 proceed on 10-day recess outside the country for medical check.
Special Adviser to the President on Media, Mr Femi Adesina made this know in a statement released this evening.
This confirms earlier reports that the President had been ill with a serious ear infection.
Mr Adesina in the statement said:
“President Muhammadu Buhari will take 10 days off and travel to London on Monday June 6th to rest.
“During the holiday, he will see an E.N.T. specialist for a persistent ear infection.
“The president was examined by his personal physician and an E.N.T specialist in Abuja and was treated. Both Nigerian doctors recommended further evaluation purely as a precaution.”
The President will spend the holiday in London, where he is expected to treat what was described as a persistent ear infection.
The President’s official Twitter handle tweeted that
“During the holiday, the President will see an Ear, Nose and Throat specialist for a persistent ear infection.”
In the recent days past, President Buhari had on three different occasions cancelled official visits to locations within and outside the country as a result of the infection and was represented at those functions by the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo.
Meanwhile, Niger Delta militant group, Red Egbesu Water Lions Avengers had sometime last month issued a strong, threatening ultimatum to the Nigerian government demanding the immediate release of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, and the discharge of former National Security Adviser, NSA, Sambo Dasuki from prison custody.
The group had threatened to join forces with the IPOB as well as the Niger Delta Avengers, blow up more pipelines and unleash more surprise attacks if the government failed to meet their demands.
President Buhari is expected end his recess and return to the country on the 16th of June. Nigerians wish President Buhari a quick recovery.
