Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, yesterday, said what many Nigerians would be too afraid to say for fear of there lives as he stated without mincing words, that if President Muhammadu Buhari finds oil in the north-east, he and his people will be the first to call for a breakup of the country.
Recall that President Buhari gave an order to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to begin the search for oil in the north-east and probably, not impressed with their efforts, later told them to add more intensity to their search.
In line with Buhari’s order “for deeper inquest into the prospectivity of some hitherto neglected finds in some areas in the North Eastern part of Nigeria”, Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Mr. Maikanti Baru, said on Monday, July 25, that the corporation was putting necessary measures in place in order to ensure a successful operation in the current search for crude oil in the Chad basin and also in some areas close to the Kolmani River, located in Bauchi State, where Shell had made some indicative discovery of hydrocarbons.
Reacting to the president’s directive, Fani Kayode who has been quite vocal and critical of the ruling All Progressives Congress, took to his Twitter handle on Thursday, August 11 to bare his mind on the issue, saying that Buhari will not hesitate to breakup the country if eventually crude oil is found in the north. On that bases, he stressed that it is his prayer that Buhari finds oil in the North in commercial quantities.
The former minister however, expressed fear that if oil is not found in the north, the northerners will continue to be the greatest obstacle to the restructuring of Nigeria. He added that they will also continue to provide the greatest opposition to the peaceful division that Nigeria needs.
Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode went on to declare that the North is nothing without southern oil.
