The five suspected killers of 74-year-old, Mrs. Bridget Agbahime, the Christian woman who was murdered in June at Kofar Wambai Market in Kano state for allegedly making a blasphemous statement against Prophet Muhammed have been released.
The Chief Magistrate of the Kano Magistrate Court, yesterday discharged all the five suspects and terminated the case as advised by the attorney-general of Kano State.
The Principal State Counsel, Rabiu Yusuf, who represented the attorney-general of Kano State told the court that there is no case to answer as all the suspects were innocent and should be discharged immediately.
Mr. Yusuf said:
“Having gone through the case diary, the attorney- general of Kano State evaluated the facts in accordance with Sections 130 and150 of the Criminal Procedure Code, presented the legal advice.
“The legal advice presented to the court, dated June 24, states that there is no case to answer as the suspects are all innocent and orders the court to discharge all the suspects.”
The police had at the time of the incident arrested the suspects – Dauda Ahmed, Abdulmumeen Mustafa, Zubairu Abubakar, Abdullahi Abubakar and Musa Abdullahi, in connection with the murder and had immediately slammed them a four-count charge of allegedly inciting disturbance, culpable homicide, joint act and mischief.
The counsel to the suspects, Abdulsalam Gambo, commended the attorney-general for the judgment in the case.
Bridget Agbahime, was brutally murdered in June at Yan Robobi in Kofar Wambai market by an angry mob, after been accused of blasphemy against Prophet Mohammed.
74-year-old Bridget, who was from Imo state and a member of Deeper Life Bible Church was known to be a quiet and decent woman.
