A bricklayer, Ola Ibikunle who kidnaps children has been nabbed by the police in the Oyero area of Ijoko, Ogun State, as he was about to murder a four-year-old girl in an uncompleted building.
According to witnesses, Ibikunle who is a bricklayer, had held his victim, Eniola, by the neck and was about to strangle her when he was caught by passersby, and subsequently handed over to operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Agbado Police Division.
The suspect who was nearly beaten to pulp by mobs in the area, confessed at the police station, that he had once kidnapped a three-year old boy and sold him for just N1,500 to a man in the Sango area.
As the story goes, his newest victim, Eniola and her 11-year-old sister, Opeyemi, were following their father, Segun Quadri, to a church in Ijoko around 2pm on Tuesday. There father had gone farther ahead of the children when the suspect grabbed the younger girl, but her older sister screamed for help and draw the attention of passerby.
The angry mob descended on him when they caught him, about to commit an evil act. Meanwhile, Ibikunle confessed that Eniola was his second victim.
Confessing to his crimes, the suspect who hails from Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, said in his dialect – Yoruba:
“I am a bricklayer, but I use child abduction to augment my wages. A man in the Sango area contracted me to always get children for him. I don’t know what he uses them for. Last month, I abducted a boy of about three years and sold him to the man for N1,500.
“The girl was suppose to be my second child I would kidnap.”
The child’s father expressed shock about the incident and he said;
“I had gone some distance ahead when some people called me that Opeyemi said her younger sister had been abducted. She said the abductor escaped with Eniola to an uncompleted building and she led us there. We met him holding her by the neck.”
According the a police source, efforts were being made to apprehend the buyer of the abducted children. Some Police square had gone twice to the said location where the suspect sells his victims, but could not find the culprit.
However, the Ogun State acting Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abimbola Oyeyemi, assured that the suspect would be thoroughly investigated as “it is a case of suspected child stealing,” he said.
