Boko Haram insurgent group has released a new propaganda video showing the execution of three alleged government spies. The video which was obtained by Saharareporters was said to have been released by the Abubakar Shekau faction of the group.
The video was rendered in Hausa and Arabic showed a series of footage showing Islamic priests, government officials and world leaders including a footage showing President Muhammad Buhari, Donald Trump, former US President Barack Obama and several European leaders.
The high point of the video was the summary execution of three persons reportedly recruited by Nigeria’s Directorate of Military Intelligence to infiltrate the group. The persons were gruesomely executed at the end of the 7-minute video.
The group also displayed a bevy of high-grade military weapons including what appeared to be anti-aircraft missiles while bragging that it remains firmly within a territory in Nigeria that the Nigerian army could not recapture.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian army has reportedly freed more than 400 hostages held by Boko Haram militants in the northeastern state of Borno.
According to the military spokesman Sani Usman, soldiers raided more than 10 villages near the border with Cameroon where the hostages were held and destroyed hideouts in the area maintained by the Islamist militant group.
“The troops responded and dealt with the Boko Haram terrorists by neutralizing and routing them out of the area. Several others escaped into the thick forest with gunshot wounds
“The troops recovered 1 Gun truck, 1 Canter vehicle and 1 pick up from the terrorists
“They also encountered Boko Haram terrorists at Shirawa who withdrew in disarray when they could not withstand the firepower of the troops and abandoned the newly constructed Logistics Base, 2 freshly prepared suicide bombing vests and maize grinding machine
“The gallant soldiers proceeded further to clear Bok, Misherde, Mika and Kutila also in Kala Balge Local Government Area of Borno State, where they liberated 455 persons held hostages by the terrorists.
“The rescued persons after thorough screening have been moved to Rann Internally Displaced Persons’ camp.”
President Muhammadu Buhari has stepped up military efforts to end the eight-year insurgency of Boko Haram, which wants to impose its version of Islamic rule in Africa’s most populous country of more than 180 million people.
