Boko Haram: Army Uncovers Underground Food Bank


The Nigeria Army have uncovered an underground food bank used by the Boko Haram. The acting Director of Army Public Relations (DAPR), Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, who disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, added that the troops also uncovered well-concealed observation posts used by the insurgents to monitor the movement of government forces.

He said the essence of the operation was to stop the reported criminal activities of remnants of Boko Haram terrorists hiding in the three villages, as the terrorists keeps coming in search for food, water and shelter.

“On Saturday 16 April 2016, troops of seven on strike group team b and 22 task force brigade conducted a simultaneous dawn raid on suspected Boko Haram terrorists hideouts at Biggoro, Warpaya and Aura, north  of Kumshe in Bama local government area.

“The surprised dawn attack yielded positive result as the troops discovered well concealed observation posts on trees in the villages constructed by the terrorists to give them early warning of troops movement or approach. To also save for the rainy day, the terrorists had underground food storage facilities where they stocked large quantity of foodstuff.

In addition the troops found out that the observation posts though tree tops, were constructed in such a manner with chairs and ropes to pull up foods and other needs by the sentry without necessarily coming down the trees

Col. Usman said the troops also killed two Boko Haram terrorists and also recovered three AK-47 rifles, magazines and ammunition. He added that they also rescued two children from the terrorists in addition to recovering two motorcycles from them.

Similarly, the Nigerian military who went on a clearance patrol to Borgozo-Alargano general area also discovered large cache of arms and ammunition concealed by the terrorists. The Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, Maj-Gen. Leo Irabor, disclosed at  a press briefing in Biu, Borno yesterday.

According to him,the patrol team also cleared remnants of Boko Haram that were dislodged from  Alagarno forest hibernating at Kadari, Camp Abu Fatima and Gursum.
