Biafra: “We Will Make Nigeria Ungovernable” – MASSOB

The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has on Thursday threatened to make Nigeria ungovernable if the Federal Government fails to conduct a referendum in the South-East.

MASSOB together with the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and other pro-Biafra groups, has called on the Federal Government to allow the Igbo people decide by vote, whether they wish to continue as Nigeria or secede.

Biafra activists believe that majority of people in the region would vote in favour of a separation from Nigeria.

In a statement issued by the National Director of Information of MASSOB, Samuel Edeson plans had been concluded with other pro-Biafra groups, to disrupt governance in the country, if the Federal Government would not conduct the referendum.

“MASSOB and other pro-Biafra agitators will make Nigeria ungovernable if the Nigerian government failed to conduct referendum in Eastern Nigeria. We shall use everything at our disposal to fight the Nigerian government, especially through civil disobedience. We are going to call for ‘sit at home’ in all Biafran land and Lagos.

“MASSOB will be taking her campaign to United States of America, United Kingdom, France and China embassies in Abuja. MASSOB therefore calls on all people of old eastern region, Delta, parts of Kogi and parts of Benue States to support the referendum that would soon take place in Biafraland. Our freedom is non negotiable,” he said.

Edeson also spoke of plans by the group to drag former President Olusegun Obasanjo to the International Criminal Court for ‘atrocities’ he allegedly committed against ‘Biafrans’ since 1970, as well as other ‘crimes’.

Recently MASSOB and a faction of  the Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP) declared they were partnering to actualize the struggle for a Biafra nation.

Speaking on behalf of MASSOB, the National Director of Information said they were willing to allow the Niger Deltans  control their own resources when the state of Biafra is actualized.

“When Biafra is actualized, children of the Niger Delta and Ogoni would be given scholarship. We assure the Niger Delta and Ogoni people from Rivers State that the Igbo do not hate them. The hatred story being bandied, but only exists in the minds of Nigerians who want to destroy the unity of the Biafran people,” he said.
