The award winning King of comedy, Okpocha Bright, A.K.A, Basketmouth has taken to his social media outlet to share the prestigious title of a Knight received by Queen Elizabeth II, the Queen of England.
Basketmouth proudly shared the news on his Facebook page captioned:
“Guess who just got knighted by the Queen of England……I’m humbled, God is truly amazing. Your majesty, thank you for the great honor….yours truly Sir Okpocha Bright.
“Now I’m officially the Lord of the ribs.”
Many fans could not believe it even though the comedian’s pictures bowing to Queen Elizabeth which he posted on his Facebook page confirms it. But it’s not surprising for people to doubt because jokers are never taken serious.
However, the Nigeria-born, Lagos-bred, famous comedian has proven to be more serious than joking, with his full-time career as a joker/rib cracker and whatever he does that makes people laugh out of their wits. The 38-year old is not only a comedian, he’s an actor, filmmaker who has organized popular stand-up comedy concerts like Basketmouth Uncensored across the globe.
Graduated from the University of Benin with a degree in Sociology and Anthropology, Okpocha (Basketmouth) has won the National Comedy Award and the awards for Best Stand-up Comedian of the Year. But not without discouraging challenges and bristles on his road to fame.
During the early stage of his career in 1991, he discovered his skill in drumming followed by rapping, when he formed a group called “Da Psychophats” which had 7 members and they started going for shows and rapping in 1995, however they broke up before releasing any material.
He went on to form another rap group known as “Da Oddz” with his brother Godwin and Muyiwa Osunrobi: they performed a couple of shows but didn’t break through as their brand of rap was not accepted in Nigeria.
At this point in his career, getting a title as a Knight of… well, that’s another honourable title he has to defend to fans who demands explanation. Or is that another of his mind bugling jokes?
