In Basketmouth’s piece titled ‘Time To Clear The Air,’ he said he would have voted anyone who could speak against GEJ. However, after attacking Jonathan’s administration for their greed and selfishness, Basketmouth retracted his statement, saying he has nothing but respect for the former president.

Basketmouth apologizes:

“I have to sincerely apologize at this point that in expressing my opinion in my last post which was primarily to clear the air about who I campaigned, supported or rooted for or didn’t, I was disrespectful to a man I have nothing but respect for.

“The last President may have had some wrong advisers and consequently, decisions were made that will eventually impact on the economy, however, I am sorry if it came across as an attack on the man Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

“We all desired a CHANGE, the majority voted for it, now we have it, it is definitely a process, a tough one because I know the hustle is real…believe me, I know. I trust it can only get better, let’s just try to be patient.”

Fair enough, the comedian came to the realization that life is not a joke and decided to make amends fast. To err is human and to forgive is divine but Nigerians will not forget the comments of Basketmouth in a hurry. Let’s summarize his ‘Time To Clear The Air,’ in four short paragraphs:

“While many of my colleagues, friends and family members campaigned for the PDP, APC and various candidates during the last elections (and I cannot emphasize enough that it is their RIGHT to do so), I NEVER campaigned for BUHARI or ANY other politician.

“Indeed I personally HOPED that he would win the election and perhaps that was evident in my ‘body language’ and I am happy he won. But I did not campaign for him. Truth of the matter is that I would have voted ANYONE that could speak 2 words of English against GEJ and that’s strictly based on the amount of greed and selfishness we witnessed from members of his administration in the 6 years that he sat on the rock.

“I have said it numerous times that I am not a politician hence I try not to dabble in politics. However, I think a few people interpret crying out against injustice by the one as campaign for the other. When the Late FELA KUTI and BOB MARLEY cried out against the injustices in their days, were they being partisan? Of course not. They were just being HUMAN!

“So long story short, did I campaign for PMB? NO! Do I support and PRAY that his administration should succeed and improve the life of the common man, increase security, food, jobs, infrastructure, quality of education, healthcare and every other area that will make Nigerians proud wherever they may find themselves? YES!”
