China is number one Asian country where such crimes are punishable by death or life sentence – if the convict would be so lucky. This obviously can never be matched with the democratic method Nigeria adopts in the fight against bribery and corrupt acts by government officials.
A 70-year-old member of parliament in China identified as Bai Enpei has been sentenced to death for bribery. Following their non-wobbly law which tends to terminate any form of taint in the system of their government, the court marshalled its extreme government.
The convicted lawmaker who was a former senior legislator with China’s legislature, the National People’s Congress, is the latest official to be punished for graft under a campaign launched by President Xi Jingping. He was accused of receiving bribes and holding excessive assets with an unidentified source.
The judicial system of China is intended to exercise judicial power independently and free of interference from administrative organs, public organizations, and individuals. China’s President, Xi Jingping had launched a campaign against corruption in government offices and report showed investigation on Enpei case of graft began in August 2014.
While the country investigates the alleged corrupt act, the politician was expelled from the Communist Party of China by the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) in January 2015. The CCDI later discovered that Enpei took advantage of his post to seek profits for others and accepted RMB 240 million in bribes.
