Impossible In Nigeria! 70-Yr-Old Lawmaker Sentenced To Death

This is what happens in a country fighting corruption at every angle, where extreme judgement is given to lawmakers who are found guilty of corruption – the Death sentence.

China is number one Asian country where such crimes are punishable by death or life sentence – if the convict would be so lucky. This obviously can never be matched with the democratic method Nigeria adopts in the fight against bribery and corrupt acts by government officials.

The convicted lawmaker who was a former senior legislator with China’s legislature, the National People’s Congress, is the latest official to be punished for graft under a campaign launched by President Xi Jingping. He was accused of receiving bribes and holding excessive assets with an unidentified source.

The judicial system of China is intended to exercise judicial power independently and free of interference from administrative organs, public organizations, and individuals. China’s President, Xi Jingping had launched a campaign against corruption in government offices and report showed investigation on Enpei case of graft began in August 2014.

While the country investigates the alleged corrupt act, the politician was expelled from the Communist Party of China by the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) in January 2015. The CCDI  later discovered that Enpei took advantage of his post to seek profits for others and accepted RMB 240 million in bribes.

Before his conviction, State-run Xinhua news agency reported that as part of Enpei’s punishment, his political rights were withdrawn for life and all his personal property were also confiscated. The man has been sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve – a temporary suspension before the execution.
