Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, says he is honoured to be a member of a cabal in the President Buhari-led government.
Babachir Lawal said this in an interview with Channels TV when he was asked to react to claims in some quarters that a cabal has hijacked the Buhari-led administration.
“I am honoured to be a cabal in this presidency. I have no apologies to make.
“If the President decides that he wants a secretary to the government who is going to work with him, coordinate the activities of his government, who will give him advise, obviously that man should be able to have unfettered access to the President.
“He is supposed to be able to give advise to the president because he is with the president on a daily basis in a manner that others might not have.”
The SGF also dismissed claims that the anti-corruption fight of this government is a witch hunt.
“Could we have known for example, that somebody can walk into Central bank, reverse his boot and leave with $2.2 billion raw cash. Could we have known that somebody will sit down and embezzle 40 billion. Look at the type of money they were dispatching.
“We are chasing thieves. We are chasing people who took away government money, our money. People who impoverished us.”
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, had said the anti-graft commission would not be deterred from prosecuting corrupt judicial officers, despite the controversies that have trailed the arrest of some judges over alleged graft.
Speaking in Kaduna on Tuesday during an official visit to Textile Labour House, the anti-graft commission boss said that the country should not serve as a hiding place for any corrupt public or private individual, no matter how highly placed in the society they are.
