Arsenal Signs German Defender Shkodran Mustafi For £35million


English club side, Arsenal has completed a £35million signing of German international defender Shkodran Mustafi.

The World Cup winner joins the Gunners from Spanish side Valencia.

The signing was confirmed on the Arsenal official website.

The club website announced that:

“German World Cup-winning centre back Shkodran Mustafi has joined us from Valencia.”

The German defender, Mustafi has agreed a five-year deal at the Emirates.

This comes as Coach Arsene Wenger strengthens a defense-line that has been tormented by injury woes during pre-season.

The 24-year-old defender has been with Spanish club Valencia for two seasons.

He has also made 64 league appearances for the club.

Mustafi began his senior career by coming through the academy at Everton before spending two years with Sampdoria in Serie A.

Arsenal Sign Shkodran Mustafi From Valencia

Shkodran Mustafi, who is currently on international duty with Germany, becomes Arsenal’s sixth signing this summer.

Arsenal have recently signed Lucas Perez, Granit Xhaka, and the young trio of Rob Holding, Takuma Asano and Nigerian Kelechi Nwakali.

Speaking about Mustafi’s signing, Arsenal coach, Wenger expressed his delight and confidence in the new signee.

Arsène Wenger said:

“He is at the right age. He has good experience.

“He is a very focused player who can play with the ball as well.

“We have taken a great player but have prepared well for the future.”

Mustafi’s signing deal is, however, subject to the completion of standard regulatory processes.

Arsenal fans and officials were delighted to welcome Shkodran to the club.

Shkodran Mustafi’s shirt number on the squad will be confirmed and unveiled shortly.

In his first interview as a Gunner, Shkodran Mustafi expressed his pleasure with his new contract.

He also revealed the key reasons for his decision to join Arsenal.

He said:

“It feels special to sign for Arsenal. I’m happy.

“It took some time but finally I’m here and I’m happy to have made a step forward in my career again.

“Because I think it is a step forward to have joined this club. I hope I’m going to have a great time here.”
