Abductors Of UI Staff Demand N5m Ransom


Kidnappers have reportedly abducted a staff of the University of Ibadan(UI), Dr Beatrice Fabunmi, on Friday, March 25, at Oba-Akoko, Ondo State on her way to visit her mother in Ibilo, Edo State.

Dr Beatrice Fabunmi who works at Kenneth Dike Library in the university was abducted alongside her husband, Prof Martins Fabunmi, who was reportedly released after being shot.

According to reports by The Nation, her abductors are demanding N5 million for her release.

Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Ibadan (UI) chapter, Dr Deji Omole, has called on the Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase to take actions towards the rescue of Mrs. Fabunmi.

“The Inspector General of Police needs to track down kidnappers in Ondo State and other adjoining states. President Muhammadu Buhari should order security agencies to ensure Dr Fabunmi’s release within 24 hours.

“If ‘big men’ or their children are kidnapped, all the newspapers will be awash with the report but when the ‘poor man’ is kidnapped, he becomes another victim”.

The Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazzau, should step up his act and check this insecurity.

“The Federal Government must not force Nigerians to rise in self defence, if their security cannot be guaranteed by the state.”

Meanwhile, the governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi will on Tuesday 29 March, 2016 commission a $4million solution-driven engineering laboratory complex at the Faculty of Technology, University of Ibadan, UI.

According UI Director of Public Communication, Olatunji Oladejo, the complex which is the first and the only automation complex in Nigeria is a product of partnership between the UI and Nigeria LNG Limited, will support the re-positioning of science and technology in a way to reshape and promote the automation of all engineering processes for the purpose of increased productivity and efficiency in Nigeria.

Expected to be at  the occasion are: the Minister for Health, Prof. Isaac Folorunso Adewole, and Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Olasupo Adetunji, Aje Ogungunniso 1.
